We are soliciting your signature on the enclosed statement
on nuclear energy by California Engineers and Scientists. We hope
to publish it as a newspaper advertisement and present it to the
State Legislature and to the Governor. We believe that the cause
is urgent and we hope that the time is right to urge the state
to take a new course. Besides the statement we enclose supporting
material obtained from a variety of sources. A signer of the statement
is committed only to the statement itself.

A word about the sponsorship. The statement was prepared by
the Stanford University chapter of Scientists and Engineers for
Secure energy (abbreviated SE2), a national organization of scientists
and engineers concerned about the security of our energy supplies.
A brochure about SE2 is enclosed. We will solicit help from other
organizations, including industry, in publicizing the statement.

John McCarthy, Professor of Computer Science (chairman Stanford Chapter SE2)

Elliott Bloom, Professor at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (secretary,
Stanford Chapter SE2)

Edward Teller, Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution

Thomas Connolly, Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Rudolph Sher, Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Robert Hofstadter, Professor of Physics

Felix Bloch, Professor Emeritus of Physics

James Meindl, Professor of Electrical Engineering

Richard Meehan, Earth Sciences Associates

Douglas Hamilton, Earth Sciences Associates

Karl Cohen, consultant
